The rate I pay is $100 per shot, so I'm not too inclinded to tip! Nor have I ever tipped a piano tuner anyway. What they are charging is a professional fee for providing a trained and practiced skill. A tuner is not on the same level as a bellhop or a barber.

Some piano tuners charge a small fee if they have to travel beyond a certain distance. For example, a piano tuner may have a flat rate of $100 for tuning pianos within a 25-mile service range and then charge an additional $1 per mile for any jobs outside of that radius.

Professional tuning levers can cost hundreds of dollars, but you can find cheaper ones that are adequate for beginners. Expect to pay around $40 minimum for a decent lever. (Do not purchase the ~$20ish “gooseneck” levers.)
